Asian Games

The Asian Games, also called the Asiad, is a multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia. The games are regulated by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) under the supervision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Medals are awarded in each event, with gold for first place, silver for second and bronze for third, a tradition which started in 1950.

Compes are entered by a National Olympic Committee (NOC) to represent their country of citizenship. National anthems and flags accompany the medal ceremonies, and tables showing the number of medals won by each country are widely used. In general only recognised nations are represented, but a few non-sovereign countries are allowed to take part. The special case of Taiwan was handled by hing it compete as Chinese Taipei, due to disagreements over the political status of Taiwan.

The last indoor games (2005 Asian Indoor Games, Bang, Thailand) was dominated by People's Republic of China, Kazakhstan, and Thailand. The last winter games (2003 Winter Asian Games, Aomori, Japan) was dominated by athletes from Japan, South Korea, and the People's Republic of China.

The 15th Asian Games will be held in Doha, Qatar on November 27 to December 15, 2006.

第1届亚洲运动会，即1951年新德里亚运会，于1951年3月4日至1951年3月11日在印度新德里举行。新德里是第一座取得亚运会主办权的城市。比赛共设6个大项57个小项。该次亚运会有11个国家和地区的500名运动员参加了6个项目的角逐，亚运会的口号是“红色太阳”。

2、赛会文化

首届亚运会会徽的主体是一个放射出16道火焰光芒的红色太阳，代表了亚洲是世界东方的日出之地，太阳下是11个相连的圆环，代表了该届亚运会的11个参赛国家或地区。亚运会的主体育场是戴亚昌德国家体育场，这是一座位于印度新德里的曲棍球体育场，能容纳2.5万人一同观看比赛，它以印度前曲棍球运动员戴亚昌德而命名。
